Welcome to Ross School's first blog site.

Please make comments on the works giving positive feedback for the 5 to 11 year olds who will be bloging. While spelling is important to us, it is not the intent of this site to have perfect spelling and grammar all of the time. this is more for the students to get their ideas out and have discussions with the world on these.

Remember some important internet safety rules when using this site (and others):

  • never give your full name
  • never give your phone number, address or email details
  • don't mention where you will be at a particular time
  • don't put any of that information on the net about anyone else
  • think carefully if you respond to anyone else's comments because they can't hear your tone of voice to determine if you are joking or serious
  • it is ok to have a debate with someone if you don't agree with their ideas but do it in a friendly manner do not call people names or put them down
Thank you.

Nelson

Robin, Katie & I got on the bus at 12:30pm and after what seemed like an age we sto
pped for five minutes in Greymouth to change buses. After that we stooped in Punikiki, Westport and Murchison.

When we finally got off I felt like a crumpled up chip packet, completly switched off, but when I saw Ida I ran to hug her, it was so cool to see her again!

The next day we got up and went for a short run and when we got back Hannah told us we could dress up in clothes from her closet, it was really funny cause all her stuff was to big for us!

On our last day we woke up really early to do a yoga DVD in their living room. After that Christine took us into Motuaka where we had sushi for lunch then we went shopping, I got a mask and some coconut incense.

On the way back to the coast it was pretty boring but all in all I was glad to be back.

Crabs, mussels and Starfish...

On the last day of the holidays Dad took Greta and I down to the Mussel Bed. We stopped at the beach and told Wayne, Cassie and Sam that we would meet them down there.

When we got down there Greta and I raced down the beach with our buckets and got straight into it. "I've got the first crab!!!" I shouted as I dropped it onto my bucket.

After about twenty-one crabs we started looking for starfish and we got about ten of those, so we let the crabs go and took our starfish up to where Dad and Wayne had just started a fire to cook our mussels on.

Greta and I don't like mussels so we stuffed out on a packet of chips. Then we went home for an early night.

South African Ginger Beer

For two weeks our hole school had to make Ginger beer. First we had to choose a country in the that is in Rugby world cup and make a Ginger beer label that is based on that country. Next we made the bug out of sultanas, lemons, sugar and ginger. We had to feed it two tea spoons of sugar and one tea spoon of ginger for one week. then we boiled up the bug and bottled our Ginger beer with our labels on the bottles. Now we have to keep our Ginger beer in a warm place for one week before we can drink it. hopefully it will be YUM!!!

Ginger beer

For about the last two weeks we have been making ginger beer. We started off by making a bug with ginger, lemon pulp and juice, sugar, sultanas and 1 cup off warm water. Then the bug farts, burps and well... vomits.

Then we make the part that we add our bugs to. Now we are just waiting a week for the bug to do its thing and then.... WE DRINK IT!!!
